I spent my career as a cognitive behavioral therapist. Now retired, I am a Cognitive Behavioral Photographer with a passion for graffiti.
I love photographing graffiti! The walls, signatures, pieces and tags; each touch me in some way. The discovery of a new piece of work is thrilling. It excites my curiosity to dig beyond the message and the name. I want to know who did this work and when was that done. How long will it be here and how did they ever get to that place. There is an excitement and sense of adventure in the impermanence of graffiti.
Other series include: urban decay in the North East, tugboats, architecture, flowers and my dog, Tashi, the Graffiti Hunter.
Sublimation onto metal is a new, cutting edge, way to reproduce an image. Sublimation itself is the process of going from a solid to a gas, back to a solid - skipping the liquid state.
The image is first printed onto a transfer paper and then is adhered to pretreated aluminum (other substrates such as tile, wood, or glass are also available).
The aluminum and transfer paper are placed into a custom heat press, which is heated to temperatures exceeding 380 degrees Fahrenheit. While being subjected to extreme heat and pressure, the dyes from the transfer paper turn into a gas, are pressed into the surface of the metal, and then solidify into the treated aluminum. As the dyes cool they are permanently infused beneath the surface of the metal substrate.
ARCHIVAL
65+ years before fading which is longer than leading photo luster papers.
SCRATCH RESISTANT
The dyes are infused beneath the exterior coating through sublimation. This makes the finished piece more durable than traditional paper/canvas imaging because it can't be scratched off the surface.
MODERN FINISH
No glass required. Photographs come complete with a floating wall mount which gives it a contemporary modern look by suspending it slightly off the wall when hung.
FIRE RETARDANT
Sublimated aluminum holds up against high heat which meets the requirements of most corporate and public environments.
CLEANABLE ART
Photographs can be cleaned with a microfiber cloth and mild household cleaner.
LIGHT WEIGHT
90% recycled aluminum is not only rigid and durable but also light weight.

“I love your artwork. It made me appreciate graffiti as an art form but even more I see geometrics differently. I see more of the world that you see and I’m so appreciative that I have a new way of looking at things... Thank you. You’ve made me grow, I respect what you’re doing.””
“I just had to share the starkly beautiful photography of my friend, Linda Handel. To me, her pictures of a graffiti imprinted industrial building being demolished along Providence’s waterfront shows her talent for finding stunningly evocative images where you least expect to find them. And it also expresses the possibilities for renewal - as this structure comes down, you can imagine another one going up in its place.”
“I’m perusing your website .... Really delighted with your work and what catches your eye. Like your sense of colour and composition, form and relationship, and light and shadow in some of them. And your use of different focal lengths to pull a crisp image into focus and let the surrounds become softer, more abstract. Most of all, I resonate strongly with your choice of subjects, from graffiti to buildings and decay to trains and train places to flowers; change and evanescence, a sense of surprise and wonder/curiosity. I like the way you see, and share your vision. Thank you very much for pointing out your work to me. Looking forward to seeing you again.”
